While I was at it I decided to get a second hard drive and do Raid 0. United States English. Ask a question. Quick access. Search related threads. Remove From My Forums. Answered by:. Archived Forums. Sign in to vote. I have tried to install XP SP3 unsuccessfully several times now.

I was hoping that the auto update version would be lighter and not conflict, but it is still the same story. The error says that sprc I have tried installing this as the Administrator in Safe Mode, and I get the same error.

I have a screenshot of the error here: Screen of error. The end of the error log is as such: Select 'OK' to undo the changes that have been made. This rollback requires a reboot. If anyone has any other suggestions besides waiting until Monday to activate it over the phone, let me know.

Forget the repair install at this point. Do a full install with a format if the users data is backed up. Formatting is not really necessary. If you just reinstall, the old data files will still be there afterward. Formatting is not required, but it is a good idea on a machine that has not been formatted in a while.

It will add any damaged clusters to the drive table. After 10 months of surprisingly reliable operation from this machine I needed to 'edit' an image to make a transaprent background. Unfortunately, the setup disk did not give an 'upgrade' choice - it attempted a fresh OS install, destroying all my updated drivers, and system checkpoints in the process. Well, that is nice of you guys to solve an old unfinished puzzle. Also, both of you Welcome to SysOpt! Originally Posted by SpotBonce. BunkerBob has it right, contrary to many other postings online. After skipping over the files that would not install during the repair, I then had to delete a directory that holds Windows Updates because of issues with newer files there as well. Why not read it up? XP did not come with SATA drivers, and there are hoops to jump through before it will install properly.

Another factor is what service pack level is the OEM install at? Hopefully it is SP3 otherwise you are already looking at lots of more problems, like a 1. I had this problem about five years ago. I suspected the XP disc, but it was kept in its sleeve, like new. It installed XP on first attempt, no problems at all. I think it was the laser failing in the old drive. Hope that helps. If it works, then good for you. But if it won't, you can follow also what mike has said..

I agree with the above. But if it fails on different files that can also mean you have some bad RAM. This might also be the source of your original problems. Probably worth taking an hour or 2 and running memtest from bootable cd. But really, if you are getting BSODs and failing to have files install on XP installation and those are because of bad RAM, then memtest is going to throw errors pretty quickly within seconds to maybe a minute. Also, its probably never 'good' if XP fails on a few files, but if you can skip them without a BSOD on install it likely isn't the end of the world.

Hello Everyone. I am having the same issue. The disc is really clean with no signs of damage or scratches. Is there any thing more technical as to why this is happening other than a bad lens or disc.

I play games on my CD Rom, so I don't think it's that. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you. I had this problem never before. Lamentonegro; You didn't say what your PC is, but one reason a Windows 10 install would fail, is that the motherboard is too old, and the program 'Slimdrivers' could not find the drivers for it. With the Windows XP 64bit, have you installed and run it ok before? Can your PC run 64 bit XP? Installing Ubuntu will overwrite Windows on your 'C' drive, so it's worth trying as it's free, and only takes 20 minutes to do.
