The application period begins on Tuesday, February 1, to high school and college students who are at least 15 years of age by March 1, Student volunteers should be willing to commit to one 4 hour shift per week for the 10 week program with a total minimum of 40 hours of service.

Openings are extremely limited. If you apply before the application process opens on February 1, , your request will be denied and you will be asked to reapply after the process begins.

To be considered as a candidate for this program, your Unpaid Experience Request Form must be received by February 20, We are looking for students willing to volunteer for no less than 8 weeks of their summer break. If you are planning multiple summer experiences or vacationing for more than 2 weeks during the summer, this program may not be for you.

No exceptions unless otherwise indicated on the application and approved by volunteer services, the department, and the unit needing the volunteer.

All volunteers will need to have reliable transportation. For parents of our teen and student volunteers, please pick up your child promptly at the end of their shift. If you are accepted to volunteer for the Summer Program, interviews will be conducted in April. All badges need to be returned to Volunteer Services at the end of your volunteering period. Our volunteers are expected to act professionally at all time.

The misuse of hospital equipment, furniture, desks, electronics, or any other patient care items is strictly prohibited. Badges must be worn at all times. If you forget your badge, you will be asked to return home to retrieve it or asked to leave for the day. Please come in dressed appropriately and ready to volunteer. Uniforms should be clean, and hair and nails should be neat. Please do not wear scrubs or use any product with a strong scent.

Volunteer Opportunities Expand. Patient Transportation and Hospitality Volunteers assist with the transport of patients in wheelchairs throughout the hospital.

Information Desk Volunteers are responsible for greeting, directing and escorting patients and visitors throughout the hospital, as well as answering phones, making badges for visitors, or doing other clerical work to help at the desk.

Clerical Positions Clerical volunteers assist with answering phones and perform various clerical tasks including mailings, filing, faxing, etc. Friendly Visits Visit with patients, assist them with small needs, talk and play games, watch TV, do puzzles, discuss events, or just spend time getting to know your patient. UConn Student volunteers and work-study students act as tutors and conversation partners in various programs on and off campus.

UConn volunteer and work-study students act as mentors and tutors supporting children in their academic and personal development. Programs are located in public schools and community based organizations and run during and after school. UConn students serve as tutors and mentors in a variety of classroom and after school settings. CHSC volunteers provide multiple diverse local sites with health services education. We provide culturally compentent health education to local, medically under-served populations.

Assist with recreational and social activities for elderly residents at the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Assist with recreational and social activities for elderly residents at the Mansfield Senior Center. Making more health provides participants the opportunity to become active citizens by developing and implementing their own solutions to community health issues. Volunteer responsibilities would include, training time and acting as either a patient, family member or healthcare professional during simulation labs for Junior and Senior Nursing students.

No medical knowledge is necessary as we will train you to each specific scenario. Help us make a difference in health care! Please no nursing students. Health services programs offer a wide variety of opportunities to students of varying majors and interests. Students who are eligible for Federal Work Study can receive their award through participation in these programs. Participants in CHSC provide health education services to medically under-served community members at multiple sites in the region. The program aims to provide culturally competent lessons to local residents in an accessible way for a diverse population. Participants in the Standardized Participant Program work directly with students from UConn's School of Nursing in their simulation labs.

Participants model a role, acting as either a patient, family member or healthcare professional during the simulation lab class for Junior and Senior Nursing Students. No medical knowledge is necessary as you will be trained for each specific scenario.
