Hi, We sometimes have an issue of getting dial tone. Some of the lines have answering machines messages that causes the lines not to have dial tone straight away.

You can also try connecting the voice telephone directly to the telco jack that the modem is connect to and see if you still get dial tone. If there is no dial tone at the modem's telco wall jack but other telephone voice jacks work properly, there is a problem in that particular "drop" on the in-house telephone wiring or a problem in the telco jack wiring.

If there is a problem in that "drop", unless you have an inside wiring contract with your local telco, normally they will not troubleshoot or fix them, you will have to try and fix it yourself or have someone that does telco wiring to fix it. If so, physically disconnect them from the telephone line and see if makes a difference. When you say you use the same line for the voice phone, are you pshically using the RJ interconnect cable that is plugged into the modem? That could be a difference. You couls also plug the voice telephone into the auxillary telephone jack on the modem and then the next time it happens, pick up the phone and listen for dial tone.
