Installshield error adding visual basic 6 runtime files object
Erro : "cannot find installable isam". I've written a simple database application in VB6. Having built and installed a package made using either VB's Package and Deployment Wizard or Installshield, I get a runtime error when I try to execute the app after apparently installing it successfully: "Provider cannot be found.
NET framework, and converting to VB6 first isn't really going to do you any favors, just take a whole bunch of time for nothing. Can you debug your app in any way? At which point the app breaks? Artinsoft designed the Upgrade Wizard for VB 6. Of course the conversion process will require VS or VB Express or earlier versions since the feature was removed from Yeah, I know there is the upgrade wizard, but all that really does is make VB6 code "sort of" run in.
It doesn't take advantage of much of the reason one would want to develop in. NET over VB6 in the first place. I'm not saying its a bad product, it is just that most cases really require a majority rewrite for anything more than very simple apps. It allows for the transition of legacy code over time to. Visual Studio Community edition which contains VB12 is under certain conditions free not for bigger companies for instance. You cannot convert anymore, but with copy and past of the code you can do a lot. Despite what some wrote is in fact in VB not so much changed. The value keywords have shift and the way parenthesis are used in more consistent than in version 6.
The big change is the designer however where not anymore like in version 6 the Windows Forms is in a kind of giblish fomat behind the scene but direct in standard code in a way you can use it everywhere in your program. This limits also the many 3rd party presentation Com objects, because those cannot anymore be used.

How sad that VB requires the version number to be quoted in the Connection String and that the packaging process doesn't install whatever version of the provider the application requires.
