So I figure well maybe there is no driver or something I looked before I ordered it and it appeared supported, but it appeared to be true. It should be using the sfxge. Rebooted, if I do a kldstat I do not see it listed. I tried adding a line to the loader. Doing a pciconf -lv I don't see it. I moved it to a different x8 slot. Still, dont see it. It's possible I suppose that its bad, but I won't know that until I put it into another box here in a bit and make sure it sees it.
Provided it does see it and I think it will I have to think its either not truly supported or I didn't do something that's needed to add the driver. Everything I can find says it should be supported in Freebsd with the sfxge driver. Thanks for any help its truly possible I just missed a step.
Ill rule out it being bad hopefully here in a bit in another box. EDIT: I saw another forum member say on There are older Intel cards and chipsets such as those based on the Intel EB controller era but those had significantly higher power consumption and required active cooling, even in server chassis.
Stick to the newer X cards if possible. Here are our top picks:. The Chelsio T cards are going to be the best bets for performance. The Intel XL card is going to be the lowest power of the group. Realistically, we say get Chelsio, and if that is not possible, get Intel. A wildcard is Mellanox as sometimes they are the most affordable options. Coming soon — we will likely update this with 25GbE and 50GbE options in the near future. We have heard work is ongoing improving performance above 40GbE and so we will issue top picks recommendations in late Q4 as FreeNAS gets better tuning for these speeds.
